Father's Day
To Hunter, the father of our son: After Ellis died you wondered aloud if we could be considered parents without having yet parented a child; ours died in my womb before we had the chance. But more heartbreaking than Ellis dying so young is the thought of him dying without any parents; we must claim these roles for him. We are his mother and father. We created him. He looked like us. He had your cheeks and hands. He had my nose and hair. He has our love.
We will continue to be his parents as we keep his memory alive, sharing the gifts he has brought us and always seeking light even in darkness. I am so proud to call you the father of our son, on your first Father’s Day.
Sending love to all the fathers missing children and the children missing fathers.
